Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Hampton, Portsmouth - VA

Schedule A

Invisalign is a great treatment for most people, but not everyone is an ideal candidate for the procedure. You may have other dental health issues or may have complaints not treatable by Invisalign. On the other hand, factors such as cost or the treatment process may cause you to decide that Invisalign isn’t the right match for you.

This page contains some background information on who is the right candidate for Invisalign, but the only way to know for sure if you are a candidate or not is to talk to a dentist. Are You a Candidate for Invisalign?

There are two main qualifications for an Invisalign candidate: good general oral health and having goals reachable with the procedure.

You have to be in good oral health to receive treatment with Invisalign. This means you should not have any periodontal disease, good bone density in the jaw, and no untreated tooth decay. You should have any of these problems addressed before getting Invisalign. You should also tell Dr. Folck about all medications you are taking, because some of them can interfere with bone remodeling, which can result in complications from the procedure.

A good Invisalign candidate also has cosmetic complaints about their teeth that can be treated with Invisalign. This includes:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Crossbite
  • Overbite
  • Underbite

Is Invisalign Right for You?

There are many important factors to consider when deciding to have Invisalign. First, you have to be committed to the procedure and prepared to follow the treatment guidelines. This means that you have to be willing and able to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours a day or else it may take longer to get the results you desire. You also have to be prepared to commit the full time to treatment and not try to rush through the aligners to hurry results. This can delay your results or prevent you from achieving them altogether.

You also have to consider other factors when choosing Invisalign. Invisalign Cost is an important consideration. Invisalign is considerably more expensive than traditional braces, and is not generally covered by dental insurance. And Invisalign likely takes about a year to achieve results. If you are unwilling to wait that long, you might consider Instant orthodontics or other tooth reshaping procedures to get results faster.
